Buffalo is the second largest city in the U. S. state of New York and the largest city in Western New York. As of 2018, the population was 256,304.
Buffalo has a population (as of 2010) of 261,310 in the city, and 1,135,509 in the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Area. Buffalo is the economic and cultural center of the Western New York region. Recently, Buffalo was named one of the Dozen Distinctive Destinations for 2009 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, whose 2011 National Preservation Conference was held in Buffalo. Other titles bestowed on Buffalo in recent years include a placement among the "44 Places to Visit in 2009" by the New York Times and America's Friendliest City by the readers of Travel+Leisure Magazine in 2017.
